The “Classic” version of the ownCloud software is no longer being developed, and support will end in late 2026. We therefore recommend switching to its successor, Nextcloud Hub Swiss, , soon. It offers more features at the same price. For our existing ownCloud clients, we offer a convenient migration service to Nextcloud.
Background
In April 2025, the US company Kiteworks, which acquired ownCloud in 2023 , announced that it would discontinue ownCloud 10.14 and all earlier versions on 31 December 2026 (end of life). This means that there will be no more security updates or support after that date.
Our recommendation: Nextcloud ✅
As an alternative that is more than a match, we recommend Nextcloud , the direct continuation of ownCloud’s development. Nextcloud offers a modern design and more features, and is actively developed as a 100% open-source solution. At eqipe, of course, it also comes with hosting in Swiss data centres and the service our clients value.
Migration service 🛎️
To make migration as straightforward as possible for our existing ownCloud clients, we have developed a migrator that automates most of the work on the server side.
Costs
When switching to Nextcloud, hosting costs and the billing model remain unchanged. We charge a one-off fee for the server-side migration, depending on the size of the installation (approximately 1–3 hours at CHF 180 per hour). If you’re interested, we’d be happy to send you a migration quote.

DIY migration 📦
If you would like to carry out the migration yourself, this is generally possible, but it involves a corresponding amount of manual work: all users, groups and shares must be recreated, and then the ownCloud data must be imported into Nextcloud.
For an error-free and as efficient as possible migration without data loss, we recommend our migration service.
